Domestic abuse: Pune woman kills self, 2-year-old daughter in Bhor

The man, in his 30s, was arrested by Rajgad police on Tuesday night.

A woman form Dhankawadi and her two-and-a-half-year old daughter were found dead in Hatve village of Bhore region of Maharashtra. Their bodies were recovered from Bhor on Tuesday morning and a case in the matter was registered on Tuesday night.

Her husband, his mother and sister were booked at Rajgadh police station in Pune rural police jurisdiction for driving the woman to commit suicide and kill her daughter. The man, in his 30s, was arrested by Rajgad police on Tuesday night.

The deceased woman was identified as Nilam Thite, 25, while her daughter was identified as Ketki Thite, according to the police. The arrested man was identified as Manoj Dinkar Thite, a resident of Dhankawdi.

"He works in a small hardware store in Dhankawadi. They lived there with their daughter. She came to Hatve and committed suicide. We found the bodies on Tuesday and arrested him immediately. We could not arrest the two women in the night, but we have called them for questioning in the matter," said police inspector BS Godse of Rajgad police station.

The complaint in the matter was filed by the deceased woman's 60-year-old father, who claimed that his daughter was constantly tortured from the beginning of her marriage in 2015. He submitted in his complaint that the Thite family members troubled her for the flower arrangement at their wedding while also taunting and hitting her for taking too long in the bathroom or getting ready.

The couple had been fighting before the woman took the drastic step, according to the police. Nilam, who was a housewife, was in the house till Manoj left for work in the morning. She is believed to have travelled to Hatve village, Manoj's native place, in order to end her life as well as her daughter's.

A case under Sections 498(a) (domestic violence), 306 (abetment to suicide), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with an intention of provoking beach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the three persons at Rajgad police station.

Past incidents

June 19: Rajesh Dattu Ramane, 40, was booked with three others for driving his wife Vandana Ramane (2000-2018) to set herself ablaze. Case under Sections 498(a), 306, 323, 504 and 34 of IPC registered at Nigdi police station.

June 18: A 29-year-old woman was booked for driving her husband to attempt suicide after they got into fight over a couple whom they had given shelter in their house. Even though he survived, a case under Section 403, 511, 323, 504 and 506 of IPC was registered against the wife and three others at Sanghvi police station.

June 18: A man's father-in-law was booked for driving him to commit suicide by jumping in front of a railway train. Lalitsingh Deepsingh Tanwar, 53, was kicked out of his house by his father-in-law, before he killed himself.
