Former Army Captain residing on footpath in Pune cantonment bludgeoned to death

Retired Army Captain Ravindra Kumar Bali (67) who used to reside on a footpath close to the officers’ mess, Southern Command, in Pune cantonment was found bludgeoned to death by an unknown man on the intervening night between Thursday and Friday in Pune cantonment area.
According to the information provided by Cantonment police station, Bali was found lying in a pool of blood on the footpath by the security guard of PWD quarters who reported the matter to the police. He was rushed to Sassoon General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning.
The police said that as per the information available to them through media , Bali was a pass out of the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA) and was living on the footpath adjoining the officers’ mess since 2013. He worked in the Indian Army for 18 years but left the service to take care of his ailing parents.
Bali didn’t complete 20 years of service and hence was not entitled for pension. He was living on footpath after his one bedroom apartment was auctioned by a bank for failing to pay the home loan EMIs (equated monthly installments).
Inspector Vasant Kuvar of Lashkar police station said, “He was an ex-army man and was residing in Pune cantonment area for the past 4-5 years. He was done to death with a cement block. The identity of his killer is still unknown but we will arrest the murderer soon.”
Police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of Indian Penal code.
