While the Baner-Balewadi residents are planning to hold a signature campaign to save the garden plot in Baner, the residents of Kothrud too are geared up to hold a similar kind of signature campaign on August 4.
Kothrud citizens are fighting against the government’s decision to change the reservation for playground, maternity home and place for fire brigade. The resident representatives from both, Baner- Balewadi and Kothrud, interacted with the press to give them an idea on the already less open green spaces in the city. The residents campaign has got support from politicians Sham Deshpande, Shiva Mantri and Gajanan Tharkude, and urban planners Ramchandra Guhad and Aneeta Benninger, and RTI activist Vijay Kumbhar.
According to Deshpande, “Survey number 159, 160 and 167 were shown to be reserved for playground, maternity home, fire brigade and a primary school according to the old Pune city development plan which was approved by the Government of Maharashtra on January 5, 2017. These survey numbers are shown to be spread out on 20 acres of land, out of which 8.34 acres has shown reserved for Shivne redevelopment and 11.6 acres has been shown for cooperative residential complex in which the proposed playground, fire brigade, maternity home has been reserved. However, out of this 11.6 acres, no land is reserved for Shivne redevelopment.”
As per government notification MRTP 37, Shivne redevelopment has been replaced with another reservation thus making Shivne part of the 11.6 acres to which residents are opposing as it is misleading and will remove the playground, fire brigade and maternity home reservation completely.
