The deceased has been identified Gursewak Singh, 60. The father disapproved her daughter’s relationship with neighbour Chamkaur Singh 26, accused in the case.

The incident happened in wee hours on Sunday when accused Chamkaur sneaked into Gursewak’s house and killed him with a sharp edged weapon while the victim was sleeping in verandah of his house. The family came to know about the murder around 6am and saw Gursewak lying in a pool of blood on the cot.

Deputy superintendent of police, Chand Singh, said the accused wanted to marry victim’s daughter.

“His daughter maintained distance after Gursewak disapproved of the relationship. Following this, the accused had grudges with Gursewak and even threatened him of dire consequences,” DSP said.

The police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the statementof Gursewak’s daughter.
