In Amritsar, Congress expels nine rebels for anti-party activities
Congress is facing massive infighting in Amritsar as those who were denied tickets have opted to contest the election as independent or are supporting those contesting against the party.
Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Saturday expelled nine local leaders from primary membership of the party for indulging in anti-party activities ahead of the municipal polls.
The state’s ruling party is facing massive infighting in Amritsar as those who were denied tickets have opted to contest the election as independent or are supporting those contesting against the Congress.
Among those expelled by the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) are Sawraj Bir Singh Dhillon, Deepak Khanna, Mahesh Khanna, who has been a councillor, Suman Bala, Vishal Sharma, Sarvjeet Singh Latti, Nisha Dhillon, Annu Khanna, Lakhwinder Kumar.
Suman Bala, Vishal Sharma, Sarvjeet Singh Latti, Nisha Dhillon, Annu Khanna and Lakhwinder are contesting as independents from different wards of the city.
The candidates have lodged complaints with the state leadership against the rebels.
Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh during a press conference here a couple of days ago had warned the rebels with expulsion from the party.
