In a key breakthrough against dreaded gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi- Sampath Nehra, the crime branch of Chandigarh Police arrested its key member, Javed Jhinjha, from Sector 11.
Police officials privy to the arrest said Jhinjha, who hails from Bingawali village in Fazilka village, is suspected to be involved in four cases of attempt to murder and assault in Rajasthan and Abohar.
“Javed was arrested with a .315 bore countrymade pistol following secret information that he was passing through the underpass between sectors 11 and 15. He is a close confidant of Lawrence Bishnoi and is co-accused in three cases with him,” said Amrao Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), crime branch.
During questioning Jhinjha revealed that he was in touch with his gang members lodged in jail at present. “Javed informed us that four months ago he used to receive calls from Lawrence from Jodhpur Jail but after his threat to Salman Khan he is lodged in a special cell and is unable to use his mobile phone. Moreover, he was consistently in touch with another gangster, Inderpreet Singh alias Parry, who is at present lodged in Ropar Jail,”inspector Amanjot Singh said in his briefing on the case.
Bishnoi in January this year had threatened to kill actor Salman Khan, saying he “will be killed here, in Jodhpur. Then he will come to know about our real identity,” while being taken to a Jodhpur court by the police.
Though Jhinjha denied being in touch with Sampath Nehra, a key member of Bishnoi’s gang who freed undertrial Deepak Kumar from police custody on June 17, 2017, he admitted to providing logistical help to the gang members.
Police said he was involved with Bishnoi in an incident of firing at the Rajasthan police and a probe into his links with other gang members in jails has been initiated by the crime branch officials.
