KJ Singh murder case: Police file chargesheet against accused Gaurav
Investigation: Apart from banking on the forensic report, Mohali police have named three people — Chand Bhaan, Mata Prasad and Ranjit Singh — as prime witnesses
The police submitted chargesheet in the double murder case of senior journalist KJ Singh and his mother Gurcharan Kaur, here on Monday.The chargesheet against accused Gaurav Kumar was submitted in the court of civil judge (junior division) Joshica Sood.
Apart from banking on the forensic report , the Mohali police have made three persons- Chand Bhaan, Mata Prasad and Ranjit Singh-as prime witness in the case. There are 40 witnesses in the case.The three main witness have also recorded there statements under Section 164 before the court.
The police said, “Accused Gaurav had got the fake number plate from Chand Bhaan.” The number plate was used to conceal the identity of the dark green Ford Ikon owned by KJ Singh. After the murder, the accused fled with the car and stationed it at Kajheri village in Chandigarh, said police.
Accused Gaurav sold the LED television stolen from KJ’s house to the other witnesses, said police.The police said that the forensic examination of the knife used in the crime had human blood on it and also fits in the cover recovered from outside the KJ’s house in 3B1.
The police have also made the three member police PCR party headed by Ajay Pathak, who tried to nab accused Gaurav, as witness in this case. The police party had signalled him to stop the car near sector 70 in Mohali. The police have also got the service slip verified from the private company in Industrial Area, from where KJ used to get his car serviced. Officials dealing with KJ’s bank transactions have also been made witness in the case.
KJ ‘s ATM cards were also recovered from the accused’s house. The police have also taken statement of nodal officer in the Airtel company as proof that the set top box recovered from accused belonged to KJ Singh.
THE CASE
The brutal murder of KJ Singh, 64, and his bed-ridden mother Gurcharan Kaur, 92, took place on the night of September 22.The police had arrested Gaurav, a native of Uttar Pradesh on October 26 for the double murder as he was found driving the car owned by KJ Singh. Gaurav and his family members have maintained that he is innocent and has nothing to do with the murder. However, the police still maintain that Gaurav killed KJ Singh to avenge his humiliation. As per information, the duo had entered into an argument after KJ slapped the accused, objecting to former sitting in a park in front of his house.
In the 150-page chargesheet, charges against Gaurav have been levelled under Sections 302 (murder), 411( dishonestly receiving stolen property),449 (house tress pas in order to commit offence punishable to death), 465 (punishment of forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468(forgery for purpose of cheating), 471(using as genuine a forged), 211(false charge of made with intent to injure) of the IPC.
The police have also attached statements of KJ Singh’s sister Yashpal Kaur, her son Ajyapal Singh and brother-in-law Ajitpal Singh Sahota. It may be mentioned here that KJ’s family had reported to the police about the missing articles from his house.
