In her complaint to the police commissioner on March 19, a 16-year-old Chhawni Mohalla resident had stated that she was married to Sameer of New Field Group of Kapurthala on February 11. It was a love marriage and was against her family's wish.

She alleged that soon after the marriage, her husband, brother-in-law Manav Kumar, mother-in-law Neha and father-in-law Kamal Kumar started harassing her for dowry. She also accused her father-in-law for attempt to rape her.

SHO at the women police station sub-inspector Kulwant Kaur said the case had been registered after investigation. The police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.

The cases have been registered under Sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 376/511 (attempt to rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
