SDM denies dengue in Batala, civil surgeon confirms 25 cases

Unable to control the breakout of dengue fever in the city, the civil administration on Sunday denied it. Subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Jaswinder Singh Grewal and senior medical officer Sukhdeep Singh called a press conference here to say that the MAC ELISA test on people admitted to the Civil Hospital had come out negative, while civil surgeon Dr Vinod Berri confirmed 25 cases to be positive.

Berri declined to comment on the SDM's claims but said the 25 positive blood samples were all from Batala. "There were some suspected cases (from Batala) as well at the Gurdaspur Civil Hospital (testing centre), definitely," he said. He directed all private doctors to report all symptomatic cases to the SMO.

Two more people, Vikas and his sister, Vibha, of Tibba Bazar have been admitted to the Batala Civil Hospital with symptoms of dengue fever.
