Teen held for murdering 5-year-old

The minor girl who was kidnapped on Wednesday was found buried in the fields near Seera village on Friday.

Police have arrested a Class-12 student for kidnapping the five-year-old daughter of his neighbour and demanding Rs 2 lakh as ransom. However, the deal was settled at Rs 60,000, but afraid of being caught the accused strangulated the girl to death and buried her body in the fields.

The accused has been identified as 19-year-old Rakesh kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh who was residing in a rented accommodation in Bazigar Mohalla in Bajra area, adjoining to the residence of Sita Ram, father of the victim.

Tracing the phone calls of the victim’s family, the CIA-2 staff arrested the accused and recovered the girl’s body following the statement made by the accused in the presence of executive magistrate.

The accused would be produced in the court on Saturday.

Yielding about the arrest of the accused, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), crime, Manjit Singh Dhesi said Sita Ram had approached the Meharban police station and had complained about his daughter Khushboo’s kidnapping and the ransom demand of `2 lakh. The police swung into action and started tracing the phone calls.

Meanwhile, the deal between Sita Ram and the kidnapper was settled at `60,000. The accused had asked Sita Ram to come near a temple on the Dhaula Road. The police laid a trap, but the accused did not come. Meanwhile, team of CIA staff-2 nabbed the accused following the call details.

The ADCP said during investigation, the accused told the police that he had killed the girl and had buried her in the fields one hour after kidnapping her as he was scared of being caught and also he did not have any place to hide her.

The ADCP said the accused was aware of the fact that the victim’s father had resources and could arrange the money. After dumping the body, the accused came back to his rented accommodation and behaved normal.

He was, however, also supporting the victim’s family in finding the girl.

CIA staff-2 in-charge Rajesh Kumar said the accused wanted to return to Uttar Pradesh to take Class-12 examination.

The police suspect rape and have asked the doctors for sending victim’s samples to the forensic laboratory.

Meanwhile, the police handed over the body to the family after post-mortem examination.
