Thieves fled with a laptop, Rs 9,000 and important documents after smashing a car’s windowpane in Panchkula’s busy Sector-20 market on Saturday night.
Ajay Singh, 28, of Dhakoli in Zirakpur told police that he was visiting the market with his family for dinner when the crime took place.
“I had gone to Gopal Sweets in Sector 20 with my family around 8:40pm. I parked my Tata Zest outside the Vijaya Bank parking lot close to the restaurant. On returning, we found the windowpane of the front passenger seat smashed and cash and other things missing,” said Singh.
The thieves took away a bag containing laptop, Rs 9,000, two debits cards, a credit card, an Aadhar card, a driving licence and other documents, he told police.
On receiving information, a police team reached the spot and started investigation.
“On the basis of the complaint, we have registered a case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code. We are going through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the bank to identify and trace the accused,” said police.
