Allu Arjun couldn’t have asked for a better Tamil debut. His latest outing Naa Peru Surya, which has been dubbed in Tamil as En Peyar Surya, has released worldwide on Friday. Usually, dubbed films get limited screens as there is no market. However, En Peyar Surya is an exception, thanks to the extremely positive buzz the film has generated since the day its teaser released.

News is that the Tamil version has released in 207 screens across Tamil Nadu. It is one of the widest releases for a dubbed film after the Baahubali franchise.

According to the film’s Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthivel of Sakthi Film Factory, the response to the film from the trade has been phenomenal. “It’s not seen as a dubbed film. Allu Arjun has a huge market and following in Tamil Nadu and all that is being converted into good screen count,” Sakthi told Hindustan Times.

Producer L Sridhar recently said the film was planned as a bilingual. “The plan was to release the film as a bilingual. Unfortunately, we couldn’t go ahead with the plan due to the recent strike in Telugu film industry. With actors like Sarath Kumar, Arjun and Nadiya playing pivotal roles in the film, we wanted to release it as a straight film in Tamil as well. Nevertheless, I’m sure audiences won’t see this as a dubbed film because of its patriotic theme. It’s a national film,” Sridhar said.

Arjun plays an army man with anger issues in the film, directed by Vakkantham Vamsi, known for his contribution as a writer for hit films such as Kick and Temper. Also starring Anu Emmanuel, Arjun Sarja, Sarath Kumar and Thakur Anup Singh, the film is a tribute to Indian soldiers. Arjun’s role required him to shed weight and he worked with a US-based trainer for close to a month to achieve the desired look. The film has music by Bollywood composer duo Vishal Shekhar.
