I want to do projects that define me: Mayuri Deshmukh
Mayuri Deshmukh shot to fame with her television show Khulata Kali Khulena. This year, the actor made her debut in theatre as an actor and writer. She also made her commercial film debut with 31 Divas. Talking about her journey from television to theatre to films, the actor admits that she has become choosy and picky. “People were used to seeing me as Mansi. Even after the show ended, I was only being approached with similar roles. Hence, I waited and decided to take up something that is experimental and new,” says Mayuri.
It was during the shoot of her show that she attended a film narration and fell in love with the script. However, she declined the offer because she wasn’t able to adjust her schedule. “I absolutely loved the script but apologised because of my prior commitments. The team was confident that I fit the bill and they were ready to adjust and shoot as per my dates. I was even helping them search for a replacement. That’s when my show ended and I took up 31 Divas,” says the actor, who is seen opposite Shashank Ketkar in the film.
Talking about working with co-actor Shashank, Mayuri adds that both of them are passionate about two things, films and food. “Between shots, we only discussed work and vegetarian food joints (laughs). We both are pretty reserved by nature and we bonded well. Shashank is a very meticulous guy. He is clear and forthright and not a people pleaser. I have learnt a few things from him which will help me in my journey ahead.”
So, what’s next? “I want to take my time and do projects that define me. I want people to know that I can do things differently. I will continue to be choosy and picky,” she says.
