Kerala film industry was dealt another blow at the audio launch of Peranbu in Chennai on Sunday when director Mysskin showed his ‘extreme love’ for actor Mammootty via a rape joke. As the film industries around the world aim to address gender-based issues, Mysskin said at Peranbu event, "You can keep watching Mammootty sir throughout this film. If he had been younger and he had been a woman, I might have fallen in love with him. Had I been a girl, I'd have raped him actually. Such a fabulous acting."
Applauding him for his acting, Mysskin suggested that if an actor from the Tamil industry had done this role, they would have spoilt it by overacting. Shockingly, the audience laughed at the rape joke and happily clapped.
Mysskin went on to say that he wished to say something “controversial” so that the film becomes a hit. While the audience failed to call out the “visionary” director for his inexcusable attempt at humour, Twitter did it anyway. While most called the speech as “cheap and in poor taste”, one user wrote, “Is this even a worthy manner of appreciating Mammootty? What is so funny in #mysskin saying he would’ve raped #Mammootty had he been a girl? Role reversal?? Its not a compliment to either the mega star or any woman. Also - One can praise an actor without having to decry another.”
Actor Prasanna also took to Twitter to express that he is ashamed of director Mysskin's comment at the audio launch. According to Behindwoods, the actor said, "Mysskin is a friend of mine. Yet am disgusted and ashamed of his comments on women and Tamil actors. Can only feel pity for the people who laughed for it"
