Mersal will hit the screens on Diwali this year.

Vijay’s Mersal is creating good buzz ahead of its release on October 18. After the immediate success of the first single, Aalaporaan Thamizha, the makers have now released the film’s second single, Neethanae. As expected, the title of the song started trending on social media with many calling it AR Rahman’s return to form.

The song, performed by Rahman and Shreya Ghosal, is a soothing number that may remind you of Rahman’s earlier number, Tere Bina Beswadi Ratiyan from the film Guru. Its slow tempo may make it the favourite romantic number of the season.

Mersal features Vijay in a triple role. He will be seen as a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. In the role of the magician, Vijay’s comic sense will be brought forth on screen.

Directed by Atlee, Mersal also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen.

Mersal made headlines with the release of its first poster, which made reference to the controversial sport of Jallikatte. Earlier this year, animal rights activists called for a ban on the sport, which involves bulls.
