Vijay’s upcoming film Mersal’s teaser clocks 25 million views.

It’s not every day that we come across a Tamil film teaser that has been viewed over 25 million times. Mersal is an exception and no wonder the film’s makers are making a big deal out of this rare feat, to be the first Vijay starrer to register over 25 million views for a teaser. It’s also the most liked Indian film teaser with nearly 1000 likes, a record it’s set by even surpassing the Baahubali franchise and Ajith’s Vivegam.

Mersal, which features Vijay in a triple role, is one of the most anticipated releases of this year and it is slated to hit the screens this Diwali, provided the decision taken by theatres in Tamil Nadu to not release any new film following the double taxation row is called off. Directed by Atlee, the film marks his second collaboration with Vijay after last year’s blockbuster Theri. In the film, Vijay will be seen as a panchayat head, a doctor and a magician. The film also stars Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as Vijay’s love interests while SJ Suryah plays the antagonist. The film has music by A.R Rahman and has been produced by Sri Thenandal Films.

Tipped to be made on a whopping budget of Rs 130 crore, Mersal is the most expensive film in Vijay’s career, superseding his Puli which was made on a budget of Rs 100 crore. It needs to be seen whether Mersal, given its high budget, can strike big at the box-office or not. The film has been dubbed in Telugu as Adhirindi, and it will have a simultaneous release with its Tamil version.
