A spectacular display of the Northern Lights illuminated the skies over Finnish Lapland, creating vivid shades of green and red across the night sky. The aurora was captured by photographer Alexander Kuznetsov near Rovaniemi over the weekend, with the display reportedly remaining visible for hours. Kuznetsov described it as the strongest show he had witnessed since a similar geomagnetic storm in January 2026. The colourful phenomenon occurs when charged particles from the Sun interact with gases in Earth’s upper atmosphere, producing glowing patterns near the polar regions. Aurora sightings were also reported in other parts of Europe, giving skywatchers a rare opportunity to witness the natural spectacle.
