Rajinikanth’s Kaala shrugs off initial hiccups, earns ₹25.6 cr in India
Despite facing stiff opposition in Karnataka and an overall low buzz about the film, Rajinikanth’s Kaala makes an impressive start.
Despite initial hiccups, Rajinikanth’s Kaala is off to a good start. Its release in India on June 7 was mired by protests across Karnataka while the buzz around the film too was relatively low. However, at the end of day 1, its domestic earning (gross) stood at ₹25.6 crore.

Kaala is definitely on an upward curve. According to Andhra Box Office, day 1 collection of Kaala ( ₹40.7 crore with US figures) stood at ₹35.6 crore worldwide.
Meanwhile, the US and Australia collections were shared by trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Quoting Rentrak, Taran on Saturday wrote: “As you read this, #Kaala crosses $ 1 million mark in USA... Total till Sat [9 June 2018] 10.36 am IST: $ 1,011,633 [ ₹6.83 cr] Updated numbers later... @Rentrak.”
In doing so, Kaala has become the fourth Rajinikanth film to cross $1 million mark in the US. Sharing this information, film critic Sreedhar Pillai wrote: “#Kaala crosses the magic $1 million in #USA. @rajinikanth’s 4th film after #Endhiran, #Lingaa, #Kabali to cross $1million in America.”
Taran also shared the film’s Australia figures. He wrote: “Rajinikanth mania grips AUSTRALIA... #Kaala takes a FANTASTIC START... As a matter of fact, it’s one of the BEST STARTS by an Indian film in Australia... Debuts at No 5 at Australia BO...Thu A$ 105,672 Fri A$ 100,662 Total: A$ 206,334 [ ₹1.06 cr] @Rentrak.”
In three days since its release, the film’s the overall total now stands ₹43.49 crore (not inclusive of the Day 2 domestic gross collection).
Kaala released amid great fanfare by Rajinikanth fans. However, the fizz was lacking. As per an IANS report, on day 1, the film opened to an underwhelming response. It went on to say that it was one of the lowest-recorded openings in recent times for a Rajinikanth starrer.
