Vijay-starrer Mersal is up for release this week. The film’s songs, its trailer and its many posters have all been received well by the fans of the Tamil superstar. Days before the release, the actor met Tamil Nadu chief minister E Palaniswami on Sunday in Chennai.
According to a report in IB Times, Vijay met the chief minister to thank him for reducing the local entertainment tax from 10 per cent to 8 per cent, but rumours are rift that he requested the chief minister to help in the smooth release of the film.
Mersal, like a host of other big Tamil releases of late, has already faced trouble. The regional censor board refused to issue a certificate citing that it is still to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Animal Welfare Board of India for using some animals and birds in the film. Fans are afraid as this might delay the release of the film.
The report further adds that the state government is upset with the film industry, thanks to its leading stars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth’s recent political statements and their impending plunges into the political firmament in the state.
Mersal is the second time director Atlee Kumar and actor Vijay are coming together for a film after the success of their film Theri (2016). The film will star Vijay in a triple role -- as a panchayat head, a magician and as a doctor. The film features three leading ladies -- Nithya Menen, Samantha Akkineni and Kajal Aggarwal.
