SHANGHAI: World No 1 Novak Djokovic recovered from a first-set loss to overcome Germany’s Mischa Zverev while Britain’s Andy Murray swept past Belgium’s David Goffin to reach the Shanghai Masters semifinals on Friday. Djokovic committed 37 unforced errors before labouring to a 3-6 7-6(4) 6-3 win which set up a clash with Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut. Second seed Murray, who has now won 16 sets in a row in ATP events, was ruthless in his 6-2 6-2 victory to clinch his fifth win in five matches against Goffin.

PAES-BEGEMANN LOSE

TASHKENT: Leander Paes and Germany’s Andre Begemann went down 4-6, 2-6 to local Denis Istomin and Mikhail Elgin of Russia in the doubles final of the $1,25,000 Tashkent ATP Challenger at the Olympic Tennis School here on Friday.

SIDDHANTH IN FINAL

NEW DELHI: Top seed Siddhanth Banthia lined himself up for a double in the U-16 boys’ category in the Fenesta Open national championship. After lifting the boys’ doubles title with Megh Kumar Patel, Siddhanth beat his partner in the semifinals of the singles 6-2, 6-3 on Friday. He will play Dakshineshwar Suresh in the final, who had to work hard to beat Abhimanyu Vennenreddy 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

RIO CHAMP FOR CITY RUN

NEW DELHI: Eliud Kipchoge, Kenya’s distance runner and Rio Olympic marathon champion, would be seen in action during the Delhi Half Marathon on Nov 20. The Kenyan runner has confirmed his participation in the 21km race. His personal best over the distance is 59:25.

CARDIFF: Ched Evans, a Wales international who has played for Manchester City and Sheffield United, was found not guilty of rape on Friday following a retrial, ending a five-year case. He admitted to having sex with a teenager in May 2011 but always insisted it was consensual.
