Four-time Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 30. His announcement comes just weeks before the start of the 2026 NFL season.
Chubb shared the news in an emotional Instagram post on Friday. “Football was a huge blessing in my life,” Chubb wrote. “Twelve-year-old me could have never imagined where this game would take us. But 30-year-old me can look back and say we gave it everything we had.”
The running back played for eight seasons in NFL that included seven years with the Cleveland Browns and one with the Houston Texans. Marca estimates his net worth at around $25 million.

Why did Nick Chubb retire?
Chubb did not give a specific explanation for his retirement, but it came after years of recuperation from severe injuries that hindered his output in the later parts of his career.
Chubb entered the NFL after the Browns selected him in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. The 22-year-old quickly became the talk of the league as one of the premier running backs.
He rushed for 996 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie. He then earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2019 through 2022. His best campaign came in 2022, when he rushed for 1,525 yards, which made him rank third in the NFL.
His career changed dramatically during the 2023 season. Chubb suffered a severe left knee injury in Week 2. He could not play that season. He tore his MCL and the injuries damaged his meniscus and medial capsule requiring multiple surgeries.
It marked the second catastrophic injury to the same knee. While playin at Georgia in 2015, Chubb tore his MCL, PCL and LCL of his left knee.
Throughout his NFL career, Chubb averaged 5.2 yards per carry prior to his injury in 2023. That number decreased to 3.7 yards per carry after returning.
Although Chubb returned during the 2024 season, he did not regain his previous form. He also missed the last three games of that season due to a broke foot.
He later signed with the Houston Texans, where he appeared in 15 games and rushed for 506 yards and three touchdowns.
