Govt mulls SIT to probe communal clashes in state
The state government of Mumbai is considering the formation of a special investigation team to probe an alleged plan to disturb communal harmony. The plan involves glorifying Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, which has led to communal tensions and riots in various cities. The government has received intelligence from the Intelligence Bureau and Anti-Terrorism Squad, and if necessary, an SIT will be constituted for investigation. The government is also considering bringing a law against forced religious conversions. Some BJP legislators have called for an Uttar Pradesh-like law on inter-religion marriages in the state.
