Death toll in Assam floods cross 100; nearly 25 lakh still affected

According to a bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), two persons died at Kalgachia in Barpeta, two more at Kachugaon in Kokrajhar and one at Bhuragaon in Morigaon district.
As on Sunday, nearly 25 lakh people in 2265 villages in 23 of the state’s 33 districts were still affected by floods. Goalpara (4.70 lakh) was the worst affected district followed by Barpeta (3.95 lakh) and Morigaon (3.33 lakh).(PTI)

Four more die in Assam floods taking tally to 91; 26 districts still affected

According to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, one death each was reported from Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Morigaon and Golaghat districts.

Assam flood situation worsens; 2.5 lakh affected in 16 districts, death toll rises to 16

One person died due to drowning in Dibrugarh on Friday taking the total number of deaths due to floods in this season to 16.
A total of 18,234 persons uprooted due to flooding are taking shelter in 142 camps in 9 of the affected districts. Rescue personnel evacuated 151 people trapped due to floods in Dhemaji, Nalbari and Dibrugarh districts on Friday.(PTI)

Friendly social media warnings from Bhutan help Assam villagers tackle floods

Last month, several such messages about the likelihood of flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides etc helped many in Assam’s Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa districts to avoid severe losses.

Japanese encephalitis, toll rise to 49 in Assam

State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed all districts except Kokrajhar are at present affected by the disease. Leave of all doctors and paramedical staff has been kept on hold with immediate effect till September 30.

‘Mistaken identity’: Tagged a foreigner, Assam woman freed after three years

After an ex parte order declaring Madhubala Namasudra as a foreigner, the police came looking for her and instead picked up Madhubala Das, according to Deepak Dey of the All Assam Bengali Youth Student Federation.

Over 110 declared foreigners sent to detention camps in Assam; families claim Indian citizens being harassed

Police in Assam have sent more than 110 declared foreigners to detention camps in the last fortnight. Families of these people say that Indians are being harassed within the country.
