Punjab proposes to replace regular medical officers with empanelled doctors in Primary Health Centres, Aam Aadmi Clinics
The Punjab state health department has proposed to replace regular MBBS doctors with empanelled doctors at primary health centres, including 400 Aam Aadmi Clinics (AACs) in rural areas. The empanelled doctors are not paid a fixed remuneration but receive an incentive of INR 50 per consultation. The state government is now considering deploying empanelled doctors at regular posts by shifting regular doctors of AACs to secondary healthcare institutes. The Punjab Civil Medical Service Association, an organisation of regular doctors, has expressed concern that the move will abolish regular posts in rural areas.

Lucknow, East UP to get 2 multi-specialty hospitals
Two multi-specialty hospitals with 400-bed capacity each are set to be built in Lucknow and on the Varanasi-Mirzapur border, following investments promised at the Uttar Pradesh Investors? Summit in February. The state government has vowed to ensure the process is not delayed, and healthcare providers have called for a single-window clearance system to speed up the approvals process. Medanta and Apollo are among the chains that already operate in the state.

Intranasal Covid-19 vaccine sees low response on Day 1
Mumbai's rollout of the intranasal Covid-19 vaccine saw a low response on the first day with only 23 senior citizens taking the booster dose. The vaccine, iNCOVACC by Bharat Biotech, will be administered to those above the age of 60 and eligible six months after their second dose of either Covishield or Covaxin. The state health department recently procured 2 lakh doses, of which BMC procured around 2,000 doses. The vaccine will be given through spot registration at 24 centres across Mumbai.
