‘This is the worst economy to be hating your job’

Taking to Instagram, Aliya Wani Masood, who said she has worked as an HR manager in Dubai for the past 10 years, shared her assessment of the current hiring landscape.

"If nobody has told you this, hear me out. This is the worst economy to be hating your job. I receive 10 to 20 CVs every single day where people with manager-level of experience are actually applying for entry-level jobs. I work as an HR manager from past 10 years in Dubai, and one or two things I can tell you about the current job market is that it's really, really tight," she said.

Masood added that she frequently comes across experienced professionals who have recently lost their jobs.

"I meet a lot of people on weekly basis who have been laid off, and all of them are with good experience—like they are not freshies, so they have been laid off from good positions. So, the job that you have right now: stick to it, be grateful, do your job with all the honesty."

She also advised employees facing workplace bullying or other difficulties to seek help rather than immediately resigning.

"And the labour law in this country is so strong that if you are facing any bully or anything at workplace that's making it difficult for you to perform your job, reach out to the labour and they will be able to help you out. But hold your job until you have something else ready for..."

‘Have a backup plan before walking away’

In the caption accompanying the video, Masood reiterated that experienced candidates are competing for limited opportunities.

"As an HR Manager in Dubai for the past 10 years, I can honestly say, this is NOT the market to casually quit your job. I see highly experienced people applying for entry-level roles, people getting laid off, and countless CVs with no openings to match. If your job is paying your bills right now, hold onto it. Having a job in this market is a luxury. Of course, don’t tolerate bullying, harassment or unfair treatment. Know your labour rights and seek legal help if needed — but please have a backup plan before walking away. Just sharing this from the other side of the hiring table."
