HBO has shared brand new pictures from the upcoming fifth episode of Game of Thrones’ season eight. The new photos show Daenerys Targaryen’s armies face against Cersei Lannister’s at the gates of King’s Landing.
Jon Snow and Ser Davos have finally arrived in the capital to join Daenerys’ fleet. They are seen with Tyrion Lannister, taking stock of the armies that they will fight against. Even the Golden Company is ready with their tall spears and golden armours, to fight for Cersei. Another picture shows Jon with Varys at a beach. It is not clear where the beach is.
More pictures show Daenerys looking gloomy and glum after the death of her friend Missandei and her dragon Rhaegal in the last episode. She is seen looking out of the window with Tyrion next to her. What’s worth noticing is that she is wearing fewer braids than usual. Could it be because she no longer has Missandei to help her with it? Even fans noticed the detail. “Oh my god did Dany do her own braids? She doesn’t even have one person left who can braid her hair? Or she just doesn’t want anyone else besides Missandei,” wrote one. “It’s really sad to see Dany without her braids,” tweeted another. “I hadn’t thought about Dany’s hair! Now there’s no Missandei to style it! Reason #5893 as to why I’ll miss Missandei,” read a tweet.

One picture shows Cersei still looking smug in her balcony, wearing the same red dress that she has worn all season. There is Euron Greyjoy aboard one of his ships, holding what looks like a bag of booze.
The latest episode of the hit series came under fire for a sensitive dialogue between Sansa Stark and Sandor Clegane. People criticised it for justifying rape and sexual abuse for the evolution of Sansa’s character. Sandor tells Sansa (played by Sophie Turner) that had she left King’s Landing with him, she would not have faced villains like Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish and Ramsay Bolton. To which Sansa said, “Without Littlefinger and Ramsay and the rest, I would have stayed a ‘little bird’ all my life,” she says, using his nickname for her.
Actor Jessica Chastain, who will next be seen in Turner-fronted X-Men: Dark Phoenix, took to Twitter Tuesday to call out the HBO series for crediting Sansa’s victimisation in order to grow. “Rape is not a tool to make a character stronger. A woman doesn’t need to be victimized in order to become a butterfly. The #littlebird was always a Phoenix. Her prevailing strength is solely because of her. And her alone. #GameOfThrones (sic)” the actor wrote. Turner is yet to respond to the social media furore against the latest episode.
The next episode will air in India on Monday at 6.30 am on Hotstar.
