Gauri Yadav Tonk, who rose to fame with a TV show that ran from 2001-2004 and a couple of dance reality shows, is back on TV after nine years.

"It’s all because of my daughter,” says the mother of a nine-year-old, who left daily soaps when she became a mother. “My daughter would see my serials and tell me, ‘Mamma, why don’t you act, I am grown up now. Why don’t you go back to serials?’,” adds Gauri, who now plays the mother to Mrityunjay, the male lead of an ongoing TV show.

So, was she apprehensive to make a comeback with a mother’s role? “I was, initially, but after reading the script, I realised that it was a meaty role. If I didn’t do it, they’d have taken someone as young as me. My character isn’t that of a stereotypical mother in a sari, with grey hair and a bun!” says Gauri, who also wants to be back in a lead role with husband Yash Tonk. Is he excited about her re-entry on TV?

"Initially, he was sceptical… Adaat ho gayi thi na mujhe humesha ghar mein dekhkar (he was used to seeing me at home)! Now he’s happy,” says Gauri.
