I want to be a father very soon: Ravi Dubey

Television actor Ravi Dubey says he and his wife, actor Sargun Mehta, have priorities other than starting a family right now.

While 2016 may have witnessed several celebrity breakups, actors Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehta continue to go strong. The popular television couple has been together since 2013, the year they got hitched.

We ask Ravi whether they will be starting a family anytime soon, and the actor laughs, saying, “I’ll be honest. I want to be a father. But Sargun and I have different priorities at the moment. She is doing well in her career. A woman has to go through a lot of biological changes [when she becomes pregnant]. So I can’t put Sargun through that right now. There’s a long time before we go the family way.”

The actor has been acting on the small screen since 2007 and has been part of many shows. Does playing one character for a prolonged period get monotonous? Ravi says, “Yes, it does,” adding, “You have to keep reinventing yourself, even on a personal level. If you find a way to bond with your character every month, the monotony isn’t going to set in.”

Actors often participate in reality shows when their serials shut shop. But Ravi doesn’t see the trend as a “guarantee” for an actor’s success. “There’s no guarantee that an actor will make his or her mark on a reality show. You may deploy many strategies as an actor. But as an individual, if people don’t like you, no amount of jumping from daily soaps, to television, to films will help,” he says.

Ravi says acting has given him “everything”. “There was a time in my life when I was earning not more than seven to eight thousand rupees a month. Today, the acting industry has given me everything, from honour to money,” he adds.
