TV actor Kavita Kaushik is one excited newly-wed bride. She got married to Ronnit Biswas this year in January, and is all set for her first Karva Chauth today — the one-day festival on which married women fast from sunrise to moonrise.

“I’m very excited, because I had kept the fast last year too, but it will be the first one after my marriage. Usse pehle maine life mein kabhi fast nahi kiya tha, because I am a big foodie! We were so sure of each other since the time we met. We had decided that we will definitely get married,” says the 36-year old.

Like many households across India, Kavita has planned a party for her friends on the auspicious occasion. “Last year, my mother had helped me with the pooja, but this year, she’s travelling. So Samta ji, who had starred with me in my show Tota Weds Maina, will be coming over to my place and cooking for all us friends. I have called a mehendi wala too. There will be lots of music, dance and food for those who are not fasting,” Kavita tells us.

While many people tend to look down upon women who do not fast, Kavita gets irritated with this line of thought. “Karva Chauth is a very romantic festival. I get angry when someone says ‘Pehle aisa hota tha’ ya ‘vaisa hota tha’. I don’t advise anyone to do anything, eat or not eat. For me, the significance of the day is to dedicate that one day from your busy lives for your man, getting ready for him, fasting and praying for him. It’s so romantic,” she adds.
