Second time lucky? AIB is up for another celebrity roast
"11 million people saw it on YouTube in just two days. You think people didn’t like it?”
Comic group AIB dealt with FIRs, trolls and abuses when they did a roast of actors Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, and filmmaker Karan Johar earlier this year.
However, when we caught up with two of the group’s members on their recent Delhi visit, they said that they won’t mind doing another celeb roast.
“Yeah, sure ... why not!” said AIB member Rohan Joshi, when we asked him if the group is open to doing another roast.
“I don’t know where this thing about it being a flop came from. I mean, 11 million people saw it on YouTube in just two days. You think people didn’t like it?” said the group’s co-founder Gursimran Khamba, referring to the criticism surrounding the roast, that many felt was vulgar and violated laws.
The two point out that the roast was actually their biggest hit. “When you know illegal copies of the roast are being sold for one hundred bucks, then you know people are watching it and liking it as well. It’s the only thing in our life that has been worth torrenting. And that’s no mean feat,” laughs Joshi.
The group even drew flak from the film industry, including actors Aamir Khan, Mallika Sherawat and Farida Jalal, but they maintain that they will not change their style for anyone. “It’s a zero-sum game ... if you try to produce content from one person’s perspective, it does not give any guarantee that everyone else will also like it. We can’t control people. Our job is to be funny, and we do everything that we think makes us funny,” says Khamba.
