The fornicating snakes are back in high heels. Watch all Naagin 3 promos so far
Mouni Roy may have quit the show but the show did not quit being insufferably weird. Here’s what is in store for us for the upcoming season of Naagin.
Everyone’s favourite, impossibly cerebral show on Indian television is back with a vengeance in its heart. Colors is bringing back Naagin with a third season on June 2 and as far as the promos are concerned, things seem to have taken a turn for the worse.
In a country that is struggling to control the rape and harassment epidemic, Colors decided to introduce a similar story in the new season. In the first promo released on May 4, Karishma Tanna plays a naagin to Rajat Tokas’ naag.
They make love under the stars in their snakey forms and dance around in their semi-naked human forms to celebrate their love. All is going well, even Tokas’ very deadly facial hair, until a tree trunk is rammed into his head by a dozen grimacing men.
The men then attack the naagin in her human form and, there is no way to put it gently, rape her. A naagin gets gang-raped on a television show in 2018 India.
The second promo, released earlier this week, introduces Anita Hassanandani, also a naagin, as she vogues around a water-clogged temple in high heels while a much taller Tanna roams beside her barefoot. “Insaaf ki paaysi, kai roop badal kar karegi vaar!,” tweeted Colors honcho Raj Nayak. Qubool Hai star Surbhi Jyoti is also a part of the show and is seen in a different coloured dress than the other two in the promotional images, which means she is the lead of the new season.
Naagin previously starred Mouni Roy as lead in its last two seasons. She fought an icchadhari nevla, an icchadhari morni and an icchadhari saas to get her hands on a naagmani and avenge her parents’ murder.
Since then, Mouni has moved on to better things that do not involve her hissing with her tongue out or shape-shifting into a snake. She will soon be seen opposite Akshay Kumar in Gold.
As for us, we will still be on our couches, watching a show about snake women and gang-rape. We just hope and pray that the highly sensitive topic, at least, is dealt sensitively.
