Calcutta University’s protesting students force Governor to skip convocation

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to skip the convocation ceremony of University of Calcutta. Protesting students surrounded his car and raised slogans against Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, and the proposed National Register of Citizens. Eventually, the Governor did manage to enter the building, but couldn't attend the ceremony. He met Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee who was conferred with an honorary D.Litt. Dhankhar said that those who 'compromised culture and decorum' should be in reflective mode. He had faced similar protests at Jadavpur University last month.
