Covid | 'We should be able to vaccinate 60 crore people by year-end': Top doctor

Top doctor Naresh Trehan said there will likely be no shortage of Covid vaccines by July-August. The Medanta Hospital MD and Chairman added that India should be able to vaccinate 60 crore people with both the doses by the end of the year. “In India, one thing is fortunate that we are the manufacturing hub of vaccines. Already 7-8 crore of doses are available per month but it needs to be ramped up. We need to vaccinate 60-70 crore people to say we have reached herd immunity. As our population is very large, we need 140-170 crore doses for vaccination,” he said. He added, “Many new vaccines are coming up & there will be no shortage by July-August. By December, we should be able to vaccinate 60 crore people with both doses.”
