Oxygen Express reaches Maharashtra; Nagpur gets life-saving gas

The first Oxygen Express returned to Maharashtra, four days after it started its journey. The train carried seven tankers filled with liquid medical oxygen from Visakhapatnam. The Oxygen Express arrived at Nagpur at 8.10 pm, bringing some relief to the state. Maharashtra is reeling under a surge in Covid-19 cases & shortages of medical oxygen. Three tankers were unloaded at Nagpur & remaining will be unloaded at Nasik Road station. The flat-wagon goods train departed from Visakhapatnam on Thursday night. The train had left for Visakhapatnam from Kalamboli near Mumbai on April 19, around 8 pm. After more than 50 hours' journey, it reached the destination, passing through many cities. Amid spiralling Covid cases in the country, demand for oxygen has gone through the roof. On Friday, Maharashtra reported over 66,830 fresh cases & 773 Covid-related deaths.
