Giving a further boost to the Narendra Modi government's ambitious 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' campaign, French engine-maker Safran will set up a Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facility for leading-edge aviation propulsion (LEAP) commercial aircraft engines. The MRO facility will be set up by the company as part of its offset commitments. As per reports, Safran will invest $150 million in setting up the facility. Sources told HT that the MRO facility, said to be based either in Hyderabad or Bengaluru, will apparently be announced tomorrow when Safran CEO Olivier Andres meets Indian Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. It also aims to further its proposal to co-develop with DRDO's Gas Turbine Research Establishment a 110kn thrust engine for the fifth-generation advanced medium combat aircraft twin-engine (AMCA) fighter project.
