The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board made a big announcement on Monday. After a closely-watched meeting, the Board announced its decision to accept a 5-acre plot allotted by the state government. The allotment was in accordance with the Supreme Court verdict in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute. After ruling in the favour of the Ram Mandir litigants, the top court had said that the Muslim side be allotted an alternate site to build a mosque to compensate for the Babri Masjid's unlawful destruction. The UP Sunni Central Waqf Board said that a trust would be set up which would build not just a mosque, but also a hospital and library, among other structures, at the site.
