Action being taken, but rapes happen all over India: Shinde

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Monday made a statement in both the Houses of Parliament giving details of the rape of a five-year-old girl in Delhi's Gandhinagar area as well as the police response to it. Shinde said that an inquiry has been ordered into the lapses on part of police in connection with the case, but added that such incidents don't just happen in the national capital. He said such incidents happen across the country. Making a suo motu statement in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Shinde updated members about the action taken by the government in relation to the incident. He said the Station House Officer (SHO) and the Investigating Officer (IO) have been placed under suspension taking note of the lapses in the investigation.
