Following the death of almost 23 students after consuming mid-day meal in a government school in Bihar, it has now come to the forefront that the state government last year, had returned to the Center a sum of Rs.463 crore meant to build mid-day meal kitchens and buy utensils to serve cooked meals. The money was allotted between 2006-07 and 2009-10, and was kept untouched till early 2012 when the sum was returned back to the center.
