India's Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said that the country needs to create 14 million tonnes of extra storage to stockpile food grains. Describing the creation of this storage capacity as a challenge at a conference of provincial Food Secretaries in New Delhi, Pawar said it is essential for ensuring adequate and timely availability of food grains, especially to the vulnerable sections of the society.
