Govt. was unaware of charges against CVC Thomas

The government today told the Supreme Court that the high-powered committee headed by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that selected PJ Thomas for the post of Central Vigilance commissioner was unaware that he was chargesheeted in the Palmolein case in Kerala. Explaining the government's stand before the apex court, which was hearing a public interest litigation on the appointment, Attorney General Goolam E Vahanvati said only Thomas' bio-data was placed before the committee for consideration.
