India targeting 10 pct growth over 2011-12 to 2016-17: PM

India is targeting 10 percent gross domestic product growth over the fiscal years between 2011/12 to 2016/17, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Thursday. Addressing the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the central bank in Mumbai, Singh that country needs to build on its strengths and return as quickly as possible to a high growth path. Singh said that the government allowed the fiscal deficit to slip out of hand in the past two years as it was responding to the global economic crisis. He added that this must now be reversed.
