J&K Deputy Speaker quits

The deputy speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly Sartaj Madni on Thursday resigned from his post in protest against the remarks made by Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone on him about his conduct, in a local newspaper. Madni, a leader of the state opposition People's Democratic Party handed over his resignation, as the house reassembled after the lunch break on Thursday. Although Lone refused to accept his resignation, he walked out of the assembly saying he would return to the house only when a new seat is allotted to him.
