AB Bardhan, General Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) in Kolkata on Monday said that the Left Front would begin a countrywide agitation against the price rise from the month of August, as the government has refused to roll back the hike. On this score, he mentioned that the Left Front has chosen the month of August to voice the protest and stage all India rallies since the Parliament would be in session at that time. The central government had raised the price of petrol by Rs 3.73 and diesel by rupees 2 per litre, and opposition parties say the hike in fuel prices will add to the already existing double-digit inflation.
