Even as citizens are yet to come to terms with skyrocketing prices of onion, tomato prices have shot up across cities by almost Rs 10-15, currently selling at RS 45-55 a kg. Retail prices of tomato, which would generally be available for single-digit figure during the winter season, have shot through the roof upsetting the common man's budget. According to trade sources, prices have soared in the national capital due to supply crunch and export of the item to Pakistan. Another factor causing short supply was damage to the crop due to un-seasonal rains in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam and Gujarat's Ahmedabad regions. These are the areas from where bulk supply of tomato comes to the capital.
