Renovation work at the heritage Sheesh Mahal in J&K

Renovation work at the heritage Sheesh Mahal building in Jammu and Kashmir, which had suffered extensive damage in the 2005 earthquake, is now underway to restore the old grandeur of the monument. A former palace of the Poonch Queen, the monument now houses a higher secondary school for girls. The then Chief Minister of J&K Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah handed over the monument to the state education department for education of girls in 1978.
