Security beefed up in Bengal ahead of polls

Calling on voters to exercise their franchise freely and fearlessly, unprecedented security arrangements have been made in Kolkata for the first phase of the State Assembly elections. Ranjit Kumar Pachnanda, Police Commissioner of Kolkata said extensive police arrangements have been made to ensure free, fair and safe polls. West Bengal with 294-member legislature will have assembly elections in six phases. The first phase of voting will take place on April 18, second phase on April 23, third phase on April 27, fourth phase on May 03, fifth phase on May 07 and sixth phase on May 10.
