Denied ticket by BJP, prominent Dalit leader Udit Raj joins Congress

Following denial of a ticket to contest the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, prominent Dalit leader Udit Raj quit the Bharatiya Janata Party. A day after the BJP announced singer Hans Raj Hans as its candidate from the North West Delhi constituency, the Lok Sabha MP joined the Congress. Udit Raj alleged that he was punished by the BJP for speaking up for the empowerment of the Dalit community. Now, BJP's Hans Raj Hans will be contesting against Congress' Rajesh Lilothia and Aam Aadmi Party's Gugan Singh from the seat.
