Israel-Gaza violence: India calls for ‘de-escalation’; urges direct negotiations

India has called for immediate de-escalation of the situation between Israel & Palestine. Speaking at the United Nation virtual meeting, India urged both sides to show restraint and refrain from actions that could escalate the cycle of violence. ‘The indiscriminate rocket firings from Gaza targeting the civilian population in Israel, which we condemn, and the retaliatory strikes into Gaza, have caused immense suffering and resulted in deaths. We believe that every effort should be made to create conducive conditions for resumption of talks between Israel and Palestine,’ India’s permanent representative to the UN, T.S. Tirumurti said.
