Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12. Welcoming Xi, Modi thanked China for its support and cooperation during India’s BRICS presidency and said the two leaders had an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation. Xi Jinping, in his remarks, said he was pleased to return to India and meet Modi again, recalling his previous visit to New Delhi and his interactions with the Prime Minister over the past decade. Xi said China and India should view their relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective, respect each other’s core interests and support common development.
