The G20 Foreign Minister meet in India was to be a historic occasion. With 40 delegations and some of the world’s most influential diplomats in New Delhi, the meeting was set to be one of the highlights of India’s G20 Presidency. However, a failure to arrive at a joint statement due to disagreements over the Ukraine war seems to have cast a shadow over the event. Was the G20 Foreign Ministers meeting a failure?
HT’s Shashank Mattoo looks into the event and what India sought to achieve. Mattoo argues that the meeting was a mixed bag for India and brought its share of wins and losses for New Delhi. With the leader’s summit now set for September, India will have its diplomatic work cut out for it.
